What a day

By | Posted at 15:43:51
With a small schedule today, I slept late this morning. Big mistake. My schedule grew and today ended up being crazy. First, a fire, or something like that, took down all sites my company sells hosting services to (through our hosting provider). That was at around 10:00 A.M. and didn't clear up until after six this evening. For those who are curious, here is the explanation I sent to my clients:
At approximately 10:00 A.M. Central Time this morning, Network Access
Corporation's (NAC) Site B datacenter in New Jersey, where Universal
Networks' name servers are located, had its fire suppression system activated
after what appears to have been the explosion of a [capacitor for a] uninterpretable power
supply located in the building. This resulted in the loss of power and
consequently the loss of access to Universal Networks' internet properties.

At 11:00 A.M. Central Time the fire department allowed NAC personnel back
into Site B, however due to various circumstances, the section of the
datacenter housing Universal Networks' nameservers, and those of our hosting
affiliate, were left without power until after 6:00 P.M. Central Time.

Everything now appears operational again.

Thank-you for your understanding.

-Tim

Then, to make things more interesting, the Linksys ethernet router I installed for my church was on the brink today (I think I have “collisions” going on with DHCP assignment). Between the two events I had to squeeze in some actual work.

And speaking of work, the most interesting piece of it was writing on the on going SCO-IBM conflict. That conflict now envelopes Novell and Linus Torvalds too. I was going crazy today not being able to put anything about it on OfB.biz (not to mention going crazy because no one could access the article I put on OfB.biz last night).

At any rate, hopefully things will calm down now. I haven't forgotten about finishing my trip summary (complete with traveling tips for those going to the Ozarks), but I didn't want to rush putting together the second entry. It'll be on soon, however.

More Blogroll, More Blogshares

By | Posted at 11:45:26

Well, I conducted a reverse stock split this morning in hopes of increasing my share price so that I could issue some more shares. That worked, and there's 940 shares available for the taking if you so desire. The only bad news is issuing more shares caused my P/E to rise precipitously, and I lost $2,000 in worth in my personal portfolio as the price dropped. It seems a bit odd that buying sixty shares should cause such a large drop, but oh well. It should be stable now though, as the P/E is close to perfect and at a much better price than it would have been a day or two ago… remember buy when it's low (but, because you like asisaid, don't sell high)! ;-)

In other news, I have made some Blogroll additions. First, I've added “Sisters' Weblog: It Bloggles the Mind,” which I've been following for a little while now. Also, just this morning while following my Blogshares, I noticed Josiah Richie's blog was linking to me, and I've returned the link. I know Josiah from ChristianSource Free Software and Linux Users Group and I knew he had a blog, but I was thinking it was mostly discussion of Gentoo news. Anyway, it is now blogrolled as well.

Perpetually Behind

By | Posted at 18:0:47

Well, I've been so far behind I haven't had the time to post anything meaningful here for a little while. I'll shape up… I promise!

Saddam Hussein's son, Uday, comes home from shopping with everything in a
cardboard box.

Saddam says: “Why have you brought the shopping home in a cardboard box,
Uday ?” To which his son replies: “Because there's no Baghdad.”

Okay, now, if you're looking for something to do, go visit Pressed's site and read his interesting piece on Pluralism. This is a really important topic and one that faces every Christian today. I can't even begin to remember how many times people have used the arguments that Pressed discusses to argue against absolute truth — and as Pressed explains, these arguments fall apart by themselves.

G'night!

I'm sorry, Mr. Butler.

By | Posted at 14:4:49

Sigh. I've been found out. For the last year I've tried to pretend that I'm Timothy Butler, the editor of Open for Business and gotten away with it, but I got caught last night. I'm really Dan Richardson, the guy Mr. Butler hired to do some work on his company's site. He was quite disappointed to find out I'd been posing as him for the last year.

Introducting asisaid.com

By | Posted at 19:1:58

Well, I decided it was finally time for my site to get its own domain name. And so here it is…. I proudly unveil asisaid.com (a.k.a. the site formerly known as Tim's Site). While there is still some dust, I've also taken some time to integrate the journal (the most utilized part of the site) with the other content pages.

Stupid Me!!!

By | Posted at 16:21:43

Note to self: Always check the front page of your blog to make sure it is working after making major changes to the code.

It seems that Tim's Journal was not accessible for about three or four hours tonight because of a bug I created in the code that caused the main page to attempt to load an article created at “0” (the UNIX epoch, that is, January 1, 1970 00:00:00 GMT). Unfortunately, it seems people did visit the site during that time, and sadly one person from blogs4God stopped by and seeing that nothing worked, gave the site a “6” rating (all things considered, “6” is more than fair for a site that doesn't work. ;-)). Oh well, hopefully whomever stopped by will come again now that things are working again.

A Year and Counting...

By | Posted at 7:41:49

Well, depending on if you count my blog starting when I posted the first substantial item or if you count the first 'testing' message, my blog either turned a year old on February 21 or will turn a year old March 4. I'll just go with March 4 so that I don't have to admit that I forgot to post something on the 21st… Did I just say that?

By the way, congratulations to Christopher, of What in Tarnation?!?, who achieved a blog entry-a-day for an entire month in February! That's not necessarily an easy task, but he seemed up to the challenge. Considering that he just won an award from me yesterday, he's on quite a roll. :-)

Need Some Punditing?

By | Posted at 17:26:18

I'm pleased to introduce a new entry to my blog roll. Le Renard Subtil's Citizen of the State is an interesting “pundit blog” that's part of the Gone Ape Web Network (as is What in Tarnation!?!). This blog has been up for about a month, and I decided it was high time for me to add it to my blog roll rather than using my blog roll to get to Christopher's blog roll to get to COTS (if you aren't confused by now, you should get some kind of award!).

Improved Journal

By | Posted at 14:54:17

Well, after a few more hours of hacking, I think my modifications to Ciaran's blogging code are complete (for now at least). Thanks to him, I fixed a number of bugs, including the “Remember Me” function on comments. But, wait, there's more!
