Free Amazon Prime for Students
By Timothy R. Butler | Posted at 15:20:7
Amazon is giving away (affiliate link) a free year of Amazon Prime unlimited, no extra charge two day shipping to students at a college or grad school. If you are taking at least one class for credit, you qualify.
I signed up and Amazon was nice enough to offer a prorated refund for the remaining months in my regular Amazon Prime subscription.
Thanks for telling me of this, Tim!
I used to shop Amazon quite a bit. I'd wait until I had $25 worth of books to order and take advantage of their super saver shipping. The free shipping usually had the books to me in 3 or 4 days, so there was no need to pay extra for anything faster. I think Amazon figured this out, though, as the last few times I've ordered from them, there has been a 1-week gap between when Amazon says the order has shipped and when USPS says they received the package, meaning the free shipping took almost two weeks. I stopped buying books online and just didn't buy books if I couldn't find them local.
I'll still look for books at Powell's (buying local isn't hard when the best bookstore ever is only a few miles away), but won't skip out on a book just because I can't pick it up in person.
I know exactly what you mean, Caedmon. I never really liked Super Saver shipping very much. I noticed the slow handoff of the products, too; much slower than B&N. I'd often bite the bullet and pay $3.99 for shipping to get normal ground delivery.
But, this is far better than that! No one seems to be able to ship products faster than Amazon, when using Prime…
